He was a diligent student who never missed a single quiz. For example, he participated in the TV quiz show,<em> It&#8217;s Academic<\/em>, representing Madison High School<strong>.<\/strong> In 1967, Chuck graduated from James Madison High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Schumer was involved in politics through Eugene McCarthy or rather his political campaign in 1968. He studied chemistry and social sciences at Harvard and didn&#8217;t even consider politics before that moment. His law degree from Harvard Law School in 1971 helped him a lot in his future career, even though he had no law practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chuck Schumer&#8217;s political career began in 1974 when he was first elected to the New York State Assembly. From that time on, he won every single election. In 1993, he introduced the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). Schumer served on the House Judiciary Committee and had the opportunity to oversee the investigation of the Waco siege. In a small town of Texas, there was a cult known as the Branch Davidians, located on the Mount Carmel ranch. The cult members were suspected of Gun Laws violation. In the course of the raid, shooting began, which in turn caused a fire. There were many rumors and debates on this case since there were casualties during the operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1998, Schumer won the election to the Senate and in 2016, he became a Senate Minority Leader. Schumer was the first New Yorker and Jew to become Senate leader. In 2021, he was re-elected again and became Majority Leader. This shows his stability and support in society and among colleagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_favorite_with_the_public_and_journalists\"><\/span>A favorite with the public and journalists<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Any politician, especially one of Schumer\u2019s rank, is a public person. For some reason, Chuck Schumer made a cult of his own, for which was ridiculed by his colleagues. Bob Dole, a former Republican senator, joked that standing between Schumer and the camera was life-threatening. Despite the scoffs and jests, no one can deny that Schumer surely knows how to use the media. Senators are almost stars there. They are invited to various talk shows and interviews. But Schumer&#8217;s charisma cannot be denied. Along with all of his positions and responsibilities, Schumer served as the Chairman of the Joint Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies during Barack Obama&#8217;s second inauguration. Being engaged in all organizational activities, he also gave a speech and hosted the ceremony. Schumer enjoyed this work, and the photo with his happy face became a meme on the Internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Americans admire Schumer not only for his appearance on TV. He was the only senator from New York who personally visited every state during his office. He was always concerned only with the acute problems of each state. After all, Schumer is worried about every American. Pharmaceutical companies retained the right to sell medicine and prevented genetic drugs created by non-private companies from entering the market. They often applied to the court to prove that their patent rights were infringed. This led to additional costs for consumers. In 2001, Schumer and Senator McCain introduced a bill that would solve this problem. They wanted to reduce the costs of prescription drugs by 60%. This is a huge amount for average Americans. Schumer believed that pharmaceutical companies would get their profits anyway, but it was unaffordable for many Americans, especially those with chronic diseases. Schumer and Senator Hillary Clinton called for legislation to compel the FBI to share information with local police on terrorism. The barriers between federal and local police have always been a big issue. Since 2001, Schumer&#8217;s relationship with the FBI has deteriorated. In 2016, the FBI and its director, James Comey, announced an investigation into the improper handling of Hillary Clinton&#8217;s classified emails during her tenure at the State Department. In 2017, Trump fired Comey. After that, Schumer told the press that the FBI was investigating Russia&#8217;s involvement in the election and Trump&#8217;s victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In America in the 21st century, the problem of employment opportunities is quite acute. Schumer believed that the issue lies in net neutrality and that Americans need equal access to the global network. Schumer is sure that this contributes to the development of small and medium-sized businesses and creates additional jobs. The internet space should be the same for everyone as well as equal pay. There is no place for gender discrimination in job evaluation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Schumer has always been pro-choice on abortion. He claimed it is up to a person to decide what to do with their life and body. He also always supported same-sex marriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Foreign_policy\"><\/span>Foreign policy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to his extensive work in his native country, Chuck Schumer also has strong views on the foreign policy situation. But at the same time, he was against the involvement of the US military forces in Syria. A year later, he and other senators criticized Trump&#8217;s support for the construction of a new Russian gas pipeline bypassing Poland and Ukraine. He often expressed distrust of Trump&#8217;s policy, accusing him of loyalty to Russia. Schumer never supported this country. Since February 2022, he has supported the independence of Ukraine and repeatedly condemned the terrorist actions of the Russian Federation. Back in 2008, he was sarcastic about Russia&#8217;s intention to regain its dominance over Eastern Europe and was always for democracy in this territory. Relations with Russia were particularly strained in 2013 when Edward Snowden was granted asylum there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Schumer has often spoken out against military action. In particular, he was against funding and involvement in the conflict in Afghanistan. He reminded the cost America had to pay for Iraq and insisted that this should not happen again in Afghanistan.
